This is a Legend of Zelda : Wind Waker inspired drawing of a girl with her cat.

View fullsize Some of the models I used for inspiration.
View fullsize I first drew the main lines in black leaving the rest transparent.
View fullsize On a different layer under the black lines one, I then added some colors.
View fullsize I found this texture to give the drawing a paper-like look.
View fullsize I applied the paper texture over the color layer so the white background doesn't have the paper effect.
View fullsize Finally, on a new layer over the color layer, I painted some shadows in pitch black before changing the alpha of that whole layer to something like 20%.
